Description

Governments in chaos. Violence in the streets. A new world order is coming.

When Brent Fasslane, an exiled American conspiracy theorist, disappears in Istanbul, no one’s surprised. Afterall, if you’re a thorn in the side of the establishment, it’s a matter of when, not if.

But, when the attention of the world’s media sends Fasslane’s new book up the charts, the powerful start to worry. A damning account of corruption within the world’s governments, the book fuels a demand for change, with fear, violence, and bloodshed not far behind.

Leo and Allissa head to Istanbul in an attempt to prevent all out anarchy. But, when sinister forces intervene, it’s clear the ancient city won’t make it easy for them. Afterall, this wouldn’t be the first-time civilisations have fallen in the labyrinthine streets of old Byzantium.

Can Leo and Allissa find the world’s most famous missing person, before order crumbles for good?

FAQ

What is Istanbul Icarus about?

Istanbul Icarus is a fast-paced political conspiracy thriller and international detective novel set in Istanbul, Turkey. When controversial American author and conspiracy figure Brent Fasslane disappears after a staged assassination at the Hagia Sophia, Leo Keane and Allissa Stockwell are drawn into a case involving civil unrest, political manipulation, corporate power, and a dangerous technology company with plans to control the personal data of millions. Their investigation takes them through Istanbul’s ancient streets, hidden cisterns, and across the Bosporus as they try to uncover whether Fasslane is a victim, a fraud, or part of something far more dangerous.

Istanbul Icarus is a political conspiracy thriller, travel mystery, and international detective novel. It combines a missing person investigation with surveillance technology, public unrest, corporate corruption, data control, and the ancient atmosphere of Istanbul. Like the other International Detectives books, the city is not just a backdrop. Istanbul shapes the mystery at every turn.

Istanbul Icarus is set mainly in Istanbul, Turkey, one of the world’s great crossroads between Europe and Asia. Key locations include the Hagia Sophia, Sultanahmet, the Bosporus, hidden Byzantine cisterns, underground chambers, city backstreets, and the districts around Istanbul’s historic centre. The story also touches on Uludağ, Ankara, Brighton, and the wider political landscape of modern Turkey.
Istanbul Icarus was inspired by my visit to Istanbul in 2016, and later by my overland journey across Europe to reach the city by train. Istanbul is one of the most atmospheric cities in the world: ancient, chaotic, beautiful, and layered with history. The Hagia Sophia, the Bosporus, and the city’s underground cisterns all helped shape the story. The idea of hidden cisterns beneath the city became especially important. Istanbul is full of ancient Roman and Byzantine water systems, including the famous Basilica Cistern, and new underground chambers are still being discovered beneath modern buildings.
Yes. Istanbul Icarus is a thriller set in Istanbul, Turkey. It follows Leo Keane and Allissa Stockwell as they investigate the disappearance of Brent Fasslane and uncover a conspiracy involving Sadik-Tech, political unrest, surveillance, data control, and hidden power. For readers looking for an Istanbul mystery novel, a detective thriller set in Turkey, or a travel thriller with a vivid historic setting, Istanbul is at the heart of the book.
Yes. Istanbul Icarus is a political conspiracy thriller about surveillance, civil unrest, corporate corruption, and the danger of personal data being used as a tool of control. The story explores a conspiracy that reaches from Istanbul’s halls of power to the hidden chambers beneath the city. For readers interested in surveillance state thrillers, data privacy thrillers, technology conspiracy thrillers, and modern political thrillers, Istanbul Icarus is built around those themes.

The International Detectives series begins with location. Each book takes Leo Keane and Allissa Stockwell somewhere new, and the place shapes the investigation as much as any clue or suspect. These are not traditional police procedurals. There are no forensics labs, police stations, or routine interrogations at the centre of the books. Instead, Leo and Allissa search for people who do not want to be found in vivid international settings most detective novels rarely visit.

Istanbul Icarus is for readers who enjoy political conspiracy thrillers, international detective fiction, travel mysteries, missing person investigations, and fast-paced crime thrillers with vivid locations. It should appeal to readers interested in Istanbul, Turkey, the Hagia Sophia, the Basilica Cistern, Byzantine history, the Bosporus, surveillance technology, civil unrest, hidden chambers, corporate corruption, data privacy, and modern political intrigue.
Istanbul Icarus contains danger, tension, violence, political unrest, and adult themes connected to crime and corruption, but nothing gratuitously explicit. There is no profanity or swearing, and no scenes of a graphic sexual nature.
Istanbul Icarus and the Eden Black books both share vivid locations, fast-moving adventure, and a love of historical atmosphere, but they feel different in tone. Eden Black is a globe-trotting archaeological adventure series full of ancient mysteries, secret societies, and world-changing relics. The International Detectives series is closer to the ground. In Istanbul Icarus, Leo Keane and Allissa Stockwell are caught in a modern conspiracy involving power, politics, surveillance, data, and one of the world’s most historic cities. .
Yes. Istanbul Icarus can be read as a standalone international thriller. It is the final book in the International Detectives series, following Kathmandu Killers, Hong Kong Gone, Berlin Underground, New York Nightfall, and Riga Rising. The central Istanbul investigation is self-contained, but Leo Keane and Allissa Stockwell’s relationship and journey are richer if the books are read in order.
